The City I Imagined

Acrylic and modeling paste on canvas, 2026
18 × 48 in

An ancient city, though not one I have been to or read about. I imagined it. It stands inside a mist of fine sand that covers as much as it reveals, and the light around it is soft enough that the ground underneath stops being certain. Seen through the sand the city looks as though it is floating. I wanted it to stay at that distance. Close enough to see, and never close enough to walk into. I stopped it there and left it standing.
