Soft at the Edges
Acrylic and modeling paste on canvas, 2026
20 × 30 in
I waited in front of this canvas a long time before I began. What came was a trip to World's End at Horton Plains, which we took with the children and my husband, before my youngest daughter was born. The cliff drops away and the cloud fills the valley below it by mid-morning, so the view closes as you stand there. The mist is most of what stays with you, and the whites here are smudged for that. The red came from a story I was told there, about lovers going over that edge. I wanted how it sits in memory, soft at the edges.
